code switch

Code-switching, is a linguistic term used to describe the shift between two or more types of syntax or language, within the context of a single conversation. It could be mistaken for a kind of multiple personality disorder, yet in practice it’s a highly functional adaptation for anyone who comes of age whilst going against the grain of their society. In addition to this, code-switching is also about creating new mixtures of codes and patterns of emergent phenomena that come about as a result of the various combinations of switches employed in a single conversation, soundscape or mixtape.
